Penicuik Cricket Club unveil Memorial Bench
On Saturday 26th August, Penicuik Cricket Club’s President Mr John Downie welcomed the Ellis family and friends to the club. The family were there to present to the club a memorial bench honouring Charlie and Anne Ellis. They had both been social members of the club for a long number of years and were great supporters of the club with Charlie renowned for his book of jokes and amusing anecdotes. John then asked Martin Ellis to say a few words before the family uncovered the bench.
Martin thanked Penicuik Cricket Club for allowing the family to place the bench at the ground as it was a very special place for Mum and Dad.
They celebrated many occasions up at the club, such as special birthdays and anniversaries and were always involved in other social events being held at the club. Then there were the holidays together, with other members of the cricket club. Sometimes involving rounds of golf for the men and day trips for the Ladies. These holidays to foreign destinations with a group of very special friends were memorable.
He went on to say that the day was to commemorate their life, and in their honour present this bench to Penicuik Cricket Club.
Martin then thanked all for coming to the presentation before he and his brother David removed the cover from the bench.
The President on behalf of the club thanked the family for their generous donation of the bench.
